I have been studying at Speak out Languages now for 4 months. What marks this language school out as different to the others is its total focus on speaking and only using grammar as an additional tool to explain how to say things. Most people learn a language to speak it as that's what makes it enjoyable. 'Speak out' keeps its classes to 6 maximum and lessons lengths to an hour. The result is increased focus and confidence from its students. In my own case I was able to go from not being able to speak confidently in Spanish and Italian to being comfortable having an enjoyable chat with native speakers in just four months. I highly recommend.
Having done languages at school some 25 years ago I decided I wanted to embark on a new learning experience. I joined the beginners Italian class in September this year and it has been a brilliant experience. Our teacher is brilliant, she is fun and informative and as well as learning a new language we have had lots of laughs too! We are a small group so there is plenty of practice time and it has been lovely meeting some new people in the class. Sadly, I am just coming to the end of my 12 week course but I am feeling very excited to be signing up for more Italian classes in 2022! I really recommend Speak Out Languages for anyone looking to learn new or develop existing language skills.
I can't recommend Speak Out Languages highly enough. From initial enquiry to completing two Spanish classes (signing up for a third now!) everyone at Speak Out has been great to deal with. Languages were never my thing at school but I have really enjoyed these classes. The class is fun with lots of useful talking tasks but there is also a high level of structure and organisation behind it. The course has pulled off a neat trick of being educational but at the same time very enjoyable! Thanks to this, I have much more confidence in speaking Spanish and I can actually feel that confidence growing each week. Now, I'm looking for every opportunity I can to speak Spanish - whether in a restaurant or going on holiday! If anyone is looking to learn Spanish in Edinburgh, this is the place!
I've been loving my online French classes with Ruth and colleagues one lunch hour a week. She's brilliant at drip-feeding just the right amount of grammar and new vocab. She pivots the class without batting an eyelid as we bring up different topics and questions and she's very skilled in stretching us according to our individual competency levels. It's always a pleasure - engaging, fast paced and confidence building.
